The Tides of Alsea

It was supposed to be very hot in Creswell so we drove to the coast to Alsea a small but charming town south of Waldport. Waldport is on the other side of this bridge.

While it wasn't frigid it was certainly cool in Alsea and the McKinley's RV and Marina was a great spot. We had preferred it a bit warmer but the view was great and the concrete pads and new hook up facilities were excellent.

Alsea Bay reminded me of the Bay of Fundy(only on a smaller scale) and the big tide swings were pretty great to catalog, from high...

... to medium ...

...to low.

When the tide was lowered the Cranes ...

...and Herons came out along with the usual ...

... seagulls

Eventually a colony of seals came to the sandbar in the middle of the bay, you can see a couple of them on the left.

Then there were the vessels from this bait catcher with a shrimp vacuum aboard...

... to the pier construction rig ...

... even a brave soul in a Kayak.

There was some Queen Anne's Lace ...

... yellow pea blooms...

... a bee in the purple sage...

...all right there next to our Musemobile.

Then something unusual happened - we had company. The Charley and Sharon from next door dropped in with their grands Ainsley...

... Brianna (right) and her friend (Left) and like all kids they found rocks to throw into the bay.

Then Mandy our friend from the Obama Campaign dropped in from the D.C. area (her home is in Oregon) and she tracked us down delivering a great smile and ...

... a bottle of Noble House Muscat wine.

After two days we decided we didn't want the heat but we were not ready for late Autumn either so we headed south toward Reedsport then Elkton. On the drive down 101 we stopped in a store
in Florence, the north end of the Great Oregon Dunes Recreation Area. While waiting fore Sharyn I took some pictures of the dunes behind the store. There was a young father with three children playing on the backside of the huge hill. I got a picture to let everyone know all of Oregon isn't rocky coastline.

When you have gotten to the Oregon you learn about some hidden jewels. Salmon Harbor on Winchester Bay has a tiny but beautiful garden I love to shoot when we are in the area. Today the highlight was bright orange lilies. They were beautiful from below with the blue sky above and ...

... from above with the green leaves below.

I love poppies and this red and white one caught my eye ...

... as did this purple Clematis like the ones at our home.

The yellow Lilly looked great with the flag behind it.

Pure white Hollyhocks seemed very photogenic as well.

Next blog is back at Elkton.
