8/30/2014 Jackson, Wyoming

While we were there to visit Jackson, Wyoming we stayed in Victor, Idaho where we saw a stuffed Pheasant above a gate at the Fin and Feather Inn
On the way to Jackson we stopped for a phone call from Matt to make sure we had a solid connection and while Sharyn talked to him I took a shot of this really nice barn.
Once in Jackson Jilly met and talked with this really cool guy on a horse.
Some US Forest folks helped by this young guy cut a log...
... and we saw a really cool stagecoach passing by an old decorated Buick.
Meanwhile at an art Gallery Einstein sat enjoying the sun...
... while Mark Twain talked to some children...
... and a redhead tourist jumped in front of me taking a picture of the Stagecoach.
In the gallery there was some terrific art like this Blue Moose...
... and these Pronghorns...
and a hound showed total disinterest.
The bronze statues outside the National Museum of Wildlife Art were wonderful like this Eagle ...
... and the Elk herd...
...road we were careful not to hit a marmot...
... and stopped to get a picture of two fishermen...
... before a picture of the Bison...
... a Moose...
... a Bighorn ...
...a Deer and ...
... several extinct birds.  "The sculptures in Jackson Hole are a second edition of McGrain’s Lost Bird Project bronzes; the originals have been installed as close as possible to the geographical place each bird was last seen. The Passenger Pigeon is located at the Grange Insurance Audubon Center, Columbus, Ohio.; the Great Auk is located on Fogo Island, Newfoundland; the Labrador Duck is located at Brand Park in Elmira, New York; the Heath Hen is located in the Manuel F. Correllus State Forest, Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts; and the Carolina Parakeet is located in Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park, Okeechobee, Florida."
The Museum is really perfect to fit into the terrain ...
... and even had a sculpture of a horny toad.
Back in Jackson I got a picture of "The Merry Piglets" Mexican Cafe
It was a good day

Quote of the Day~ "Red is the ultimate cure for sadness." ~ Bill Blass
Bill Blass the Fashion Designer in 1942, Blass enlisted in the Army. He was assigned to the 603rd Camouflage Battalion with a group of writers, artists, sound engineers, theater technicians, and other creative professionals. Their mission was to fool the German Army into believing the Allies were positioned in fake locations. They did this by using recordings, dummy tanks, and other false materials. He served in this unit at several major operations including the Battle of the Bulge, the Rhine River crossing, Sicily, the Normandy breakout, and North Africa.

8/28/2014 Baker Cty. Oregon and Hagerman, Idaho

I almost missed posting these photos from Oregon's Painted Hills...
... it is a very special place many visitors and some residents to Oregon never see ...

... yet is is one of the most spectacular places in the state.

It is well worth the visit and part of many great spots along with the John Day Fossil beds

Another special place In Eastern Oregon is Baker City with historic and interesting things to see.
I like this advertising mural as an example of historic art...
...along with new art in the galleries...
... carriage rides down the main drag...
 ... more great art ...
... and more historic modes of travel.
A great place to stay or dine in Baker City is the Geiser Grand Hotel first opened in 1889...
... and still beautiful inside and out.
We next stayed at Hagerman RV Village located on US-30 at the West end of Hagerman, ID. It's a beautifully landscaped park - very quiet and with great accommodations.
