Lake Sutherland and Salt Creek Rec Area

Lake Sutherland and our Campground is in the hills across the way so we drove over for a look...
...and it looks a lot like our friend's lake home in New Hampshire (kind of)...
... with pretty water...
and a guardian knot.
We then ventured west to a place called Tongue Point  on the Juan De Fuca Strait (as seen below)...
...where I went to the tip of the tongue (no pun intended)...
... and got this picture of a sea gull colony ...
.... literally on the tip of that tongue.
To the west was a small island...
with Pigeon Guillemot swimming all around...
...and some people on the far shore.
There was seaweed floating all around ...
.... Rocky beaches...
...and Kayak folks coming to shore...
There were a few ducks...
but lots of Seagulls on a feeding frenzy
while the waves rolled in like soft glass.
Nearby was the town of Joyce, WA with an often mentioned General Store ...
... and a log Library that was once a train station.

Hike to Marymere Falls - Olympic National Park

The trail to Masrymare Falls is a great place if you like huge and stately trees like this one ...
... interesting you start the trail in a tunnel under highway 101...
... past one huge tree after another...
... waking on a very well groomed trail...
...past bracken...
...eerie roots above ground...
...boulders...
...tall big leafed plants with red berries...
...and even a hollow log in the shape of a "C."
The forest here is open enough to see around...
... making finding the giants easy...
and the water of the creek is very clear...
... with well built bridges ...
... and all three are unique ...
...like this single plank walkway (while Sharyn puts up with my stopping for pictures).
Finally after a steep but short section we arrived at the falls...
... that fall and spread like a veil...

...before falling into a small pool...
... I did a video you can see by clicking on the link below

It is a beautifully designed and maintained trail...
...they showcases the lush nature of the Olympic Peninsula ...
... a truly Emerald rain forest...
... that is both rugged and delicate...
...with oddities of mystery and food for imagination

Leaving Garibaldi and the Olympic Peninsula

Just as we were leaving Garibaldi Sharyn called me over ...
... to see three bald eagles in the bay just in front of the RV - two flew away but I did get this guy in a few pictures...
...and when we landed at our new home at Shadow Mountain RV park we were greeted by this Western Tanager, the bird, not a western Teenager.
Port Angeles is a great place even though it is about 15 miles away from the campsite it is a fascinating place. We went to the port and found the Marine Life Center...
 ... this colorful murals...
... views of ocean tankers ...
 and an Octopus sculpture...
...and on the way back to Shadow Mountain a breathtaking view of some of the Olympic Mountain Range.
We next drove to the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge and saw two deer grazing a field...
... saw a jogger running this coastal trail...
 ...a beautiful red poppy...
... and the New Dungeness Lighthouse.
on the  way back to the RV Park we stopped at the Dungeness Valley Creamery...
... where I tried their Udderly Delicious Raw Whole Milk - Yummy.
Today we drove to Crescent Lake in the Olympic National Park and spotted another deer on the payroll of the Park Service...
... and found time for a selfie in front of a huge...
 ...tree.
There is a nice looking lodge at Crescent Lake with several very nice lakeside cottages...
... and of course a great lodge with a really nice restaurant...
 and some wonderfully whimsical flowers...
... some great recreational opportunities including great trails and boating thrills ...
... and several relaxing views.
