The Other Sisters and an Art Walk

I'll start with the Art Walk

Eugene is a wonderful city to walk through at night and especially nice if it's cool and after a rain. Lights reflect off of the streets and the breeze is soft and refreshing.


Steam rises from an EWEB steam vent cover and the heat is noticeable by the dry area of the street.


I visited the galleries but I only took pictures at the Karin Clarke Gallery. They had an interesting mix of art with a wall of vertical pieces that were perfectly arranged by color.


I was intrigued by this cast aluminum piece called "Wild Man" by Jan Zack



There were several pieces by Nelson Sandgren and his life appears to have been as complex, touching and beautiful as the two pieces below.

After the Art Walk we went to Zenon's for coffee and cake and posed for a picture. Here are me, Renee and Vern with our backs against the wall (an old Ed B saying).

Actually Renee was not drinking just clowning around.


Well Scrabble Queen's Sister came to town from southern California so we went out for lunch with Ed. Scrabble Queen was very happy to see her "Seestor" as you can see in this great smile.

In fact everyone was smiling.

Jilly was just enjoying getting away from work and responsibility and seeing her dad.


We even got to see some home movies of J asa child in a C.H.I.P. car. How prophetic he is now an officer in southern California and may one day become a C.H.I.P. himself.


Finally we took Ed to play pool and eat Pizza.

Florence II Willie Nelson 1/2


We decided to take a walk today over to Mo's for some Clam chowder.

We need more sponsors - wait we don't have Winnebago, Winegard, Sightseer only their logos on our RV.

Out on the docks was a Great Blue Heron hanging out and looking for food.

I also got another picture of the Alava at high tide.

The docks at Florence are a jungle of dock pillars and boardwalks.

I like that the four sponsors listed here advertise child boating safety. I do think many adults don't float very well either but as we know adults can decide based on knowledge and experience - or can they?

Barnicle coverd beams stand close to the shore marking the height at high tide.

There is a new condo complex in Florence with a fantastic view and below is the Bridgeport Market. I took a shot or two in the market and noticed the camera (on automatic) focused on the Candy rack on the left.

There are lots of interesting things in the market...

... including this bear with a knitted had and scarf.

Jay (pictures here) and Cindy (not pictured here) Cable are the owners of both the Condos and the Market. We didn't buy anything although the condos look great but a little out of my price range (I'm jealous) but the conversation with Jay and his friend who was there was great.

More pillars looking East, I just love this view it reminds me of the old days when they floated logs down rivers for milling and transport on ships all over the world.

I actually was able to go down on the docks for a lower view.

I almost stepped on this gull so he/she scampered away squawking and flapping wings in disgust

I like the low view of the docks, it's such a different perspective.

The Best Boat Name has to go to the Miss Conduct.

Little Al took second place.

Best Cluster of Lures also wen to Miss Conduct

Best Christmas Theme went to this rig - also Miss Conduct who won Best in Show.

I liked the setup on the back of this fishing boat. I first thought the wooden box on the back was a handmade easy chair.



There was this hand carved wood statue of Neptune as a teenager.

And the bridge on 101 a landmark in Florence.


Finally we saw willie Nelson 1/2 strumming and singing on the boardwalk

Florence ~ Logs, Sand, and the Alava


We made it to Florence (Oregon) in time for some sun and decided to drive to the north jetty. It was the first Oregon beach we had seen on arriving here. Isaac took us there and as I recall it was a very windy day.

I did get some pictures and the one above was a surprise after loading it on the PC. I reminded me of "Easy Rider" looking a bit like someone on a chopper.

There were logs scattered all over in the sand reminded me why hopping in the surf in Oregon could be a risky business because of the logs floating around. Actually not that risky.

The dunes with their grasses are a soft alternative to the rocky areas of the coast.

Everywhere there are pieces of wood.

Some obviously tarnished by man like this one with steel rods in a cutout section.

I'm not sure if this was an improvised shelter or just someone playing.

It was a rustic looking lean to of logs.

I was impressed by the silver skin of this log and it looked almost metallic.

Yes, there were plenty of logs.

The striations on this log looked to me a lot like an eagle's head and was very colorful.

This piece of wood looked like it was painted.

The broken branches from this log looked a little like a row of penguins from a distance.

On the jetty there were huge boulders marking the beginning of the walk out into the finger of the jetty that intruded into the sea at the mouth of the Siuslaw River

A coast guard helicopter flew over while we were there and we hoped if it were a rescue they were successful.

There were a few pet owners out with their dogs for some exercise.

You may have seen the front of this ruined boat in a previous entry ...


...it is the Alava (a Portuguese name) and a landmark on the Siuslaw river sitting in front of the RV site faceing the river.

Some plants will grow anywhere even on the top of a tar encrusted post on the rivers edge.

Finally this is a broken post sticking up in the river. I'm not sure but I think it was a part of the logging retainers along the river.
